Configuration

config.toml sets the letters, the size of the grid, every key, the colours and each mode's settings. Leave out anything you're happy with.

Where stochos looks

$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/stochos/config.toml, or ~/.config/stochos/config.toml when XDG_CONFIG_HOME isn’t set. That’s the path on macOS too.

stochos writes the file on its first run, with every setting at its default. It never adds to the file after that. When a new version brings new settings, compare yours with the defaults:

With Home Manager, the module writes the file from Nix instead.

Sections

Letter size

stochos draws its letters from an 8 × 8 pixel font, scaled up in whole steps: 2 draws them 16 pixels tall and 3 24. Each size runs from 1 to 10. On a 4K display, try 3 or 4.

The sub-grid’s and bisect mode’s letters shrink to fit cells too small for them.

Colours

Colours are #RRGGBBAA, with the opacity last: #00000066 is black at 40%, the grid’s default.

key	paints
`cell_normal`	Each cell of the grid, and of bisect mode.
`text_first`, `text_second`	A grid label’s first and second letter. `text_first` also draws the sub-grid’s and bisect mode’s letters.
`text_dim`	The labels outside the column you’ve typed.
`cell_highlight`, `text_highlight`	The column you’ve typed, the spot you’ve refined to, and bisect’s last region.
`sub_bg`, `sub_cell_normal`	Behind the sub-grid, and each spot in it.
`border`	The outline of the sub-grid, of bisect’s region and of hint labels.
`cell_drag`, `border_dragging`	The grid and the outline while a drag is set up.
`hint_chip_bg`, `hint_text`, `hint_text_typed`, `hint_dim`	A hint label’s background, its letters, the letters you’ve typed, and labels that no longer match.
`crosshair`	Free mode’s crosshair.
`rec_bg`	The `REC` badge.
`panel_bg`, `text_white`, `text_grey`, `selected_bg`	The macro prompts and list, and free mode’s step size: background, text, help lines and the selected macro.

stochos --print-default-config lists every colour’s default.
