Clicking, dragging and scrolling

Every mode clicks five ways, and all but hint mode scroll with the arrow keys. The grid also drags, from one cell to another.

Clicks

key action
Space Click
Enter Double click
m Triple click
Delete Right click
Insert Middle click

The click lands where the mode is aiming. In the grid that’s the cell, or the spot in it you picked. In bisect mode it’s the middle of the region, in hint mode the middle of the target, and in free mode the spot under the crosshair. stochos hides the overlay first and the click goes through to the window underneath. Then stochos exits.

In the grid, pick a cell before you click, with two letters or three. In hint mode, finish a label.

On a Mac keyboard, Delete is the forward delete, fn+delete. The key labelled delete is Backspace.

Dragging

  1. Pick the cell to start from, with two letters or three.
  2. Press /. The grid comes back, in another colour.
  3. Pick the cell to drop on.
  4. Press Space or Enter.

stochos presses the left button at the start, moves to the end and lets go, which selects text, or drags whatever was under the start. While a drag is set up, the other clicks do nothing.

Drag the file into the chat
keys·Focus the screen, then pick the file’s cell.
Focus the screen and type. stochos holds the left button down from the first cell to the second, so whatever was under the first comes along.

In hint mode, / starts the drag from the selected target, and you pick the end on the grid. Bisect and free mode don’t drag.

Scrolling

The arrow keys scroll the window under the pointer, a wheel notch a press, and the overlay stays up so you can keep going. Hold one to keep scrolling. Escape closes the overlay when you’re done.

In the grid, the first letter already moves the pointer to its column, so a letter and then the arrows scroll whatever is in that column, without picking a cell.

Scroll the chat to its start
keys·Focus the screen, then press the arrows.
Focus the screen and type. stochos scrolls by sending the wheel events a mouse would, a notch a press, to whatever is under the pointer.

Hint mode doesn’t scroll. Its labels are placed for the screen as it was when they were found, and a scroll would move the targets out from under them. Switch to free mode with v to scroll from a target.
