Still frames
phonto dump saves one frame of a video as an image, for a lock screen picture or a colour scheme taken from the wallpaper.
Saving a frame
phonto dump ~/Videos/harbour.mp4 -o harbour.png-o, or --out, is required. The image is the video’s own size, whatever the screen, and its format follows the extension, .png or .jpg.
--at picks the moment, in seconds from the start, and is 0 by default:
phonto dump ~/Videos/harbour.mp4 --at 12.5 -o harbour.pngdump takes anything phonto plays, YouTube links included. On Linux, --shader runs a shader over the frame first, to match what’s on screen.
A frame of the running wallpaper
~/.cache/phonto/current holds the video phonto is playing, so a script can take a frame of whatever’s on the desktop now. Pass it to pywal, or matugen, for a colour scheme to go with it:
phonto dump "$(cat ~/.cache/phonto/current)" --at 5 -o ~/.cache/phonto/frame.png
wal -i ~/.cache/phonto/frame.pngThe same image works as swaylock’s --image, for a lock screen that matches the desktop.
