Random wallpapers
List folders of videos in config.toml, and phonto plays one of them, picked again each time it starts.
Search paths
[[search_paths]]
path = "~/Videos/wallpapers"
depth = 1
[[search_paths]]
path = "/mnt/media/loops"
depth = 0depth is how many levels of folders phonto searches: 0 is the folder alone, 1 adds the folders inside it, and so on. A file counts when its extension is mp4, mkv, webm, avi, mov, gif or ogv, in any case.
phonto skips a search path that doesn’t exist, so one config can list folders from more than one machine.
Playing one
phonto --randEvery video across all the search paths has the same chance. If there are none, phonto stops with no wallpapers found in configured search paths.
For a random video on one display only, see --display-rand.
Which one it picked
When one video plays on every display, phonto writes its path to ~/.cache/phonto/current for other programs to use. The hyprlock setup plays it on the lock screen, and phonto dump can take a frame of it.
With a different video on each display there’s no single answer, and phonto doesn’t write the file.
